Air Purifier Readout

Updated October 24, 2026 by Maren Ostrowski. No lab, no hype: picks built on independent tests and AHAM ratings.

Air Purifier Brands Compared: Who Makes What Well

Brand matters less than model, but each brand has a lane. Here is where each one is strong, which model to start with, and which claims deserve a second look.

  • Model over brandthe best and worst units can share a logo
  • AHAM Verifidethe seal that means CADR was checked
  • CR surveysrate Coway and Blueair highly for reliability

Short answer

Coway is the safest bet for most rooms, led by the Coway Mighty2. Levoit gives the most verified CADR per dollar, Winix is the carbon value pick, and Blueair is quiet and well rated in CR’s owner surveys. Austin Air is the odor specialist. Whatever the brand, check the AHAM-verified CADR before the marketing.

What buyers actually worry about

“Which air purifier brand is best?”

There isn’t one. Brands make good and weak models, so compare each model’s AHAM-verified CADR, filter cost and independent tests. Coway and Blueair score well in CR’s owner reliability surveys.

CR surveys: members give Coway top marks for predicted reliability and rate Blueair highly too.

“Is a Dyson air purifier worth it?”

Only if you also want a fan or heater in one machine and like the design. For cleaning per dollar, dedicated purifiers do more, and Dyson’s genuine filter is a yearly cost to plan for.

About $79 a year: Dyson’s 360 filter, replaced every 12 months, against about $49 a year for the Mighty2’s filter.

“Do “lifetime” or long warranties matter?”

They help, but read the terms. Medify’s lifetime warranty requires registration, and IQAir’s 10-year warranty is limited. A purifier is a fan and a filter, and the motor is what a warranty really covers.

Longest here: IQAir 10 years limited; Coway ProX, Austin Air and Rabbit Air 5 years; Medify lifetime with registration.

These come from brand searches on Bing and from what reviewers measured. We summarize; we don’t run our own lab.

Questions, answered short

Coway or Levoit: which is better?

Coway for proven designs and reliability, led by the Coway Mighty2. Levoit for verified CADR per dollar and apps, such as the Levoit Core 600S-P.

Coway or Blueair?

Coway for a strong all-rounder; Blueair for quiet, light units. CR picks Blueair for small and large rooms and Coway for extra-large ones.

Is the Shark NeverChange worth it?

If you hate buying filters and the room is small. Shark rates it for about 135 sq ft at AHAM’s 4.8 air changes, and its odor cartridge adds scent, which some people won’t want.

Is IQAir worth the money?

For build quality and a 10-year limited warranty, maybe. For cleaning per dollar, the Coway ProX does more for less.

What does “medical grade” mean on an air purifier?

Nothing standardized. It is a marketing phrase. Look for a True HEPA rating and an AHAM-verified CADR instead.

Are Honeywell air purifiers good?

The small HPA120W is CR’s small-room pick, and the Honeywell HPA125 shares its filter and room rating. Newer models like the HPA4300 haven’t been independently tested yet.
